Peter Nichols’ play is set in Bristol in 1979. Mrs Thatcher has just become Prime Minister and it’s a time of social, moral and technological change for Britain.
Maud and her son Mo pass their days together in their ageing mock Tudor home. He talks to the cat, plays his drums and concocts ridiculous cocktails for them both, while she sits chatting to the people on the telly. No amount of coaxing from Maud’s suave son Hedley and Mo’s glamorous twin sister Queenie will persuade the eccentric pair to lead a more normal life.
