To celebrate The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, BBC South East Today has commissioned a new portrait of The Queen made up entirely of photographs of the people of the southeast of England. The resulting artwork will be on display at Towner over the Diamond Jubilee.

Around 10,000 images are needed for the gigantic photo-mosaic. The photos can be portaits, family photos, shots of people in front of their favourite southeast landmark, people in their garden or on a fairground ride – anything at all as long as it shows local faces. The pictures can be black and white or colour, recent or old.

The photographs will be included in a work of art, made in collaboration with artist Helen Marshall, entitled The People’s Monarch. Submit your photos via the BBC’s website, and then visit Towner and see yourself in a work of art.

Ian Fleming, creator of secret agent 007 James Bond, stands before the audience, Martini in hand, a terrified look in his eyes…at 42 he is about to do the thing he most fears – he is getting married. It’s 1952 and Fleming is putting the finishing touches to the first Bond book Casino Royale. Bond is with us, the alter ego, an icon of class and everything Fleming aspired to.

This stylish piece captures the essence and spirit of Ian Fleming and succeeds as entertainment and as an insight into an extraordinary man. Written by Mark Burgess, it stars Michael Chance and is directed by Louise Jameson.

The Green Room Productions presents David Harrower’s Blackbird, which won the 2007 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play.

Ray is confronted with his past when Una arrives unannounced at his office. Guilt, rage and raw emotions run high as they recollect their relationship when she was twelve and he was forty. Without any moral judgments, the play never shies away from the brutal truth of abandoned and unconventional love. Ray, now 56 and with a new identity, had thought himself safe from discovery. Una, 27, is looking for answers not vengeance. Nevertheless, the consequences are shattering.

The second exhibition in the Under Ground Theatre’s new art initiative. The dramatic and colourful images are the work of young francophone artists emerging from Togo, West Africa, in the decade from 1992 and are being shown for the first time. They represent the dynamic role that contemporary Africa is playing in the divide between tradition and modernity.

During a long period living in West Africa, Eastbourne-based Jeni King became fascinated by the work of local artists who were just beginning to reach a wider audience. She went to exhibitions in the Togolese capital, Lomé, and also visited this new generation of artists at work in their studios. This collection is the result.
